Megan Black is an award-winning artist from Scotland creating music that combines the nostalgia of '60'S/'70's rock with the modern sound of queer, feminist pop. Megan has recently won 'EP of the Year', had her single 'Funk for introverts' named one of the top 20 singles released in Scotland 2024, and has been one of only 6 UK based acts invited to perform at Tallin music week - supported by the PRS international development fund to do a mini tour of Europe beginning in March 2025 which allowed her to showcase her new album (releasing in 2025). Megan has toured the UK and Europe with her original music, worked on film soundtracks for the likes of Miriam Margolyes, and gone on to sell out her own headline shows and play at festivals across the UK and Europe. Megan was also nominated for two Youth Music awards for both best live performance and best original track. She was also shortlisted as one of the top 10 singer-songwriters in Scotland and has had her music featured as 'Track of the Week' both on BBC Introducing and BBC Scotland. Megan's music focuses on her own experiences as a queer woman with her music highlighting themes of feminism, mental health, the LGBTQ+ community, the MeToo Movement, and climate change.

About the track
MOTHER. SISTER. LOVER. - Megan's 'feminist pop rock anthem' invites us into a world full of power and a calling for change. Featuring female-identifying and non-binary creatives, this track represents a movement of coming together to showcase the undeniable power our vulnerability holds.

When asked about the track in interviews, Megan has said, 'we're always taught there's a competition. There's only ever one spot, one opportunity. We have to be prettier, sexier, smarter, funnier. We have to do it all and I'm exhausted. What better way to flip that idea on it's head than to have us all standing together in unity creating iconic rock music with our fists up in the air?'

TRACK 2: JUST FOR FUN

Picture

Just for fun is the second track from Megan's new EP and addresses her own mental health struggles and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

When asked about the song, Megan said 'I wanted to be as honest as I could be. A lot of my unhealthy habits revolve around things society considers 'fun'. It's strange how some things are completely normalized and others aren't. I want to start a conversation. Mental health impacts so many of us and we need to create a safe space - mine is through music'.

TRACK 3: FUCK YOU (YOU STOLE MY YOUTH)

Picture
Fuck You (You Stole My Youth) is Megan's ode to the 'Me Too' Movement originally founded by Tarana Burke. Speaking on the track she states 'the 'Me Too' movement and the space that has created for so many people is something I'm so thankful for. I am fortunate enough that I have the space and the privilege to speak up - I want to use that wisely. I wanted to reflect on the joy that is stolen. I got tired of dealing with the consequences of someone else's actions'.

TRACK 4: ME VS MOTHER NATURE

Picture
The final track from Megan Black's EP 'Full Circle (Part 1)' focuses on the climate crisis and Megan's own fears about what's to come. 'Maybe I'll just be her observer, because Mother Nature, you know we never deserved her'.
'This song is all about raising awareness' Megan adds, 'I really struggle with the state of the planet and destruction being caused. I think this song is my way of telling other people it's really okay to find this stressful and feel helpless. I hope to raise awareness on changes, big or small, we can all make'.
